Closet Confidential: Eden Elliott - City Meets Country Meets Catwalk
Eden Elliot is by far my favorite St. Andrews Instagram celebrity. I simply COULD NOT GET ENOUGH of her fabulous, and effortlessly fashionable attire as she traversed through the New York City streets this summer. Every day I logged onto my account to see what treasures lie in store… would it be a chic country dress or a pair of trendy sunglasses? Arguably the best toss-up between two of my favorite looks ever. One day she even documented trying the infamous ManRepeller ice-cream… avocado and cookie dough…. And declared it much like how it sounds … weird. When I arrived back in St. Andrews, I knew I had to catch up with Eden to talk about how she styles her infamous looks, borrows vintage clothing, and finds a great pair of loafers.
As we began our conversation, Eden explained to me how her progression into the fashion landscape was a slow moving one. After spending much of her life in uniforms, she started the journey of building a wardrobe of unique, individualized pieces once she graduated high-school. As a Cali-born, New York bred mix, she uses New York as a muse. If it’s good enough for the city that never sleeps, it’s by default, a categorically good outfit. The calico-multicolored collage of the grunge, the preppy, the polished, and the business all encapsulate her aesthetic.
This summer, Eden explained to me, that she focused on a theme: “country meets city.” Focusing solely on buying items that centered around this duality. I, myself, AM OBSESSED WITH THIS VIBE. She incorporated gingham and delicate bows, with more trendy and fashionable pieces. Simple, yet sophisticated dresses that highlighted her girly side, while allowing her to enjoy the New York heatwave. Light-washed cut-offs and white t-shirts were proven, yet again, to remain a timeless classic.
Eden and I also engaged in possibly my favorite topic of conversation, to get or not to get bangs. Who looks good in bangs? Who doesn’t? And how the quest to become Brigette Bardot is fruitless and fraught with challenges, yet the dream of wearing swooping, loose iconic hairstyle is one that seems too magical to give up on. Quizzically, we both pondered if it was ever possible to get bangs without everyone thinking that you were in a state of complete, and utter emergency. The result: inconclusive. Eden did, however, get a very swanky shoulder-length lob this summer. One that was comparatively risky but turned out to really reap rewards. It’s a fresh and clean cut that has become perhaps, one of her best accessories.
As we continued to chat, Eden so generously showed me around her closet. Revealing an enviable vintage Gucci dress and an abundance of multi-faceted jumpsuits. She pulled out the crème-de-la-crème in the form of a velvet short suit from the streets of Paris. And Scandinavian sweaters that could convince anyone to live with a little more hygge.
Perhaps what I like about Eden’s style the most, is the fact that all the pieces are of this exact time, but she makes them look so totally her own. She doesn’t want to be a copycat or a pictorial mannequin. And as she bounces from the city scape to the hazy country twilights, just know that she will always be perfectly stylistically tuned to the rhythm of her own drum.
