Gene Chandler, born Eugene Drake Dixon and nicknamed The Duke of Earl, or just The Duke for short, was a US soul singer, inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. The Girl Don’t Care was originally released in 1967 via Brunswick. The quality of this body of work is evident in that six of the tracks were originally released as A-sides.

Anna Fallon, a St Andrean student and an avid fan of Northern Soul (typically high-tempo, lesser-known soul tracks, popular in the north of England) played the album’s first track, Nothing Can Stop Me, on my radio show, Soul Foods.
