Hot Pink, Jaipur
Drew Silverman enters the eclectic universe of Indian fashion hotspot, the famed boutique Hot Pink, Jaipur.
Pink and orange abounds! And deep banquets adorned with patterned pillows beckon. Step into the whimsical world of Hot Pink - a vibrant Indian company that curates the best of Indian contemporary textile design and fashion. In January, I was lucky enough to experience the magic of Hot Pink myself.
The visionary behind Hot Pink, jewellery designer Munnu Kasliwal of The Gem Palace (official patrons to the Royal Family of Jaipur), opened his first boutique to showcase the brilliance of traditional Indian techniques, making it accessible to a wide international audience. The current Director & Creative Head, Kalpana Kasliwal, certainly has an incredible eye for fashion. She has brought together the most innovative and talented designers to create a cohesive, strong brand. And it’s amazing to behold.
The Jaipur boutique is filled with bags, pashminas, silk tunics, embroidered dresses and Indian style jutti (traditional north Indian shoes). All are handmade and arranged in a whimsical rainbow of color - like an instant injection of sunshine. In the boutique’s multiple, open rooms there are sleek glass cases with perfectly arranged jewelry, rows and rows of soft, bright scarves, and racks of ethereal silk tunics. The overall aesthetic is a happy medium of traditional and cutting edge.
I love the house designer’s quirky, colorful prints - visible throughout, including tiny block printed elephants and horses on canvas bags and blouses. The tailored suits (complete with bright pocket squares) and richly colored, velvet jutti are especially sharp. Men of St Andrews, you need these in your lives!
Condé Nast traveler calls Hot Pink “Jaipur’s chicest boutique” with “clothes, bags, and scarves from the hottest local designers”, and I couldn’t agree more. Hot Pink is a 2016 DON'T WALK sponsor, so keep an eye out for the Hot Pink elephant at the event!
