Bucket Hats Are Here To Stay
By Isabelle Nguyen
Bucket hats for fall? Groundbreaking! In all honesty, I have never been a fan of the bucket hat trend. The round, brimmed shape reminds me of something I’d wear as a child. I’ll admit, I have quite a large head, so hats in general have either never fit me or they end up looking odd. There’s something so juvenile about a bucket hat and in the back of my mind I’m always thinking I look silly and am trying too hard to emanate my kindergarten field trip to the zoo vibes. Much to my dismay, the trend is here to stay. For fall, many celebrities, DJs, university students, and fashion influencers alike have been spotted wearing the classic bucket hat… and maybe I’ve decided I want to take part.
The trend resurfaced when pop singer, Rihanna, was seen sporting a classic mint colored nylon Prada bucket hat paired with matching mint sunglasses in NYC with ASAP Rocky on her arm. Paired with plain jeans and a funky top, she was giving major cool girl vibes – not the juvenile look I associate the bucket hat with. Alas, the bucket hat has become a staple in Rihanna’s wardrobe.
Soon after Rihanna’s moment, bucket hats were seen all over Instagram and celebs such as Billie Eilish and Brad Pitt seemed to obsess with the simple 90s staple. Whether they are blocking out the sun, having a bad hair day, or just living for the trend, it just goes to show that nostalgia will always prevail when it comes to fashion.
So what if people think you look like a try-hard child? After ruminating on the trend, I’ve decided that one’s choice in color and print of bucket hat is very telling of their personality.
It is so much more fun than the classic baseball cap and has surpassed the trend cycle is en route to becoming a chic closet staple. I hate to say it… but the bucket hat is here to stay!
